Its a big weekend for the MLL. The All Star Game is on Live on ESPN2 Thursday Night, and there are some great games going on Saturday and Sunday. The Barrage and the Long Island Lizards are off this weekend and will probably see their rivals pass them in the standings. Here’s my picks for this weekend:
MLL All Star Game: East vs. West-On ESPN2 at 10pm EST from Denver. The East has more teams to choose from, and more competitive teams in their conference. The East should win easily. Don’t know if Mike Powell will do the skills competition, but he is a lock if he participates. Langtry will win the fastest shot competition.
Boston Cannons vs. Washington Bayhawks at USNA-This game is on Saturday July 19th at 7pm EST. While its on local cable television, It will be at the Naval Academy in Annapolis so it will be interesting to see if Annapolis can rectify the bad reputation of Maryland lacrosse fans. Which is they will play lacrosse till the cows come home, but won’t support a professional team. The main reason why the Bayhawks are now in Washington. The Bayhawks are camped out in the basement of the Eastern Division after a promising start. Boston has the best offense in the league, and will hopefully have Mike Powell back from injury this weekend. No contest, Cannons over the Bayhawks in front of a big crowd (hopefully!).
Rochester Rattlers at New Jersey Pride-The Pride host the Rattlers at Rutgers at 7:30pm EST on Saturday night. Another local cable TV game. Rochester has almost all of the leagues great Canadians plus Casey Powell. New Jersey has Matt Danowski plus the lone Canuck not on the Rattlers, Merrick Thompson. The Rattlers have a great roster of veterans, the Pride are improving with their young players. I think New Jersey will pull off the win to make the Eastern Conference race more clear.
Denver Outlaws vs San Francisco Dragons-Denver travels to San Jose to play the Dragons at 10pm EST. Tape delayed on local TV. Denver is on the decline after losing to the Los Angeles Riptide last weekend and barely beating the Dragons a week before. I think the Dragons have what it takes to pull of the victory. The Outlaws better get it together or they will be sitting at home for the playoffs.
Los Angeles Riptide at Chicago Machine-The rare Sunday matinee for the MLL in Chicago starts at 4:30 EST. Live TV on some channels, taped delayed on others. Los Angeles is slowly becoming the power in the Western Conference, but Chicago is improving with its rookies from Syracuse Brooks and Leveille. I think Huntley and Woodson will pair up for a stellar game and beat the Machine, who have never won against the Riptide…0-8, soon to be 0-9.
