Who cares that Steven Brooks is the leading the MLL in rookie scoring this season? So what if he has 26 points? Who cares that his teammate Mike Leveille has 21 points? The true rookies of the year should either be Paul Rabil or Kevin Huntley. Even though they may have less points than Brooks and Leveille who are both on the Chicaco Machine, they play on teams that are competing for the Steinfeld Cup. Rabil is on the potent Boston Cannons offense, and Huntley has become the missing piece for the Los Angeles Riptide.
Statistics is a baseball factor. Numbers are for nerds. While all four players are having stellar seasons, I think the most credit should go to players who are contributing to a successful team. It doesn’t look like Chicago is going to the playoffs anytime soon. Rabil would be my only candidate for Rookie of the Year, but the past few weekends have shown that Huntley can lead a team to the playoffs. He has had big games in the Riptide’s last three games. Rabil has had just as many big games as his Hopkins teammate Huntley. It may come down to who finishes better in the post-season.
