Trudie’s MLL Preview: Week Nine

The race for the playoffs is heating up after a pair of upsets last weekend thanks to Philadelphia and New Jersey. I went 2-2 in last weekends predictions, Here is who I think is going to win this week:

Barrage vs. New Jersey Pride-This Thursday night game is being played at Rutgers at 7:30pm EST and will be on local cable TV. Both of these teams had big upsets last week. Philly controlled the seemingly unbeatable offense of the Boston Cannons and New Jersey outgunned the Long Island Lizards. Philly has the defense, New Jersey has the offense. Even though Philly has proved me wrong the past few weeks, I still think they are over rated. I am going with New Jersey to win its fourth game of the season.

Long Island Lizards at Boston Cannons-Long Island travels to Boston for a Saturday night game at 7:00pm EST. Bothof these teams fell victims to upsets last week. However, both teams also are still some of the best in the Eastern Conference. Boston has the best offensive unit in the MLL in my opinion, and should avenge a loss to the Lizards earlier in the season when they were missing Paul Rabil, Mike Powell, and AJShannon. I am going with Boston by a few goals.

Washington Bayhawks at Rochester Rattlers-This is another Saturday night match up that should be a decent game. It starts at 7:30pm EST in Rochester and will be on local cable TV. Washington has lost three straight games and has dropped out of playoff consideration. Rochester lost to Los Angeles last week and is doing slightly better than the Bayhawks. The Rattlers have a good offense and should be able to outscore the Bayhawks for the win.

Denver Outlaws at Los Angeles Riptide-This game will be tape delayed on ESPN2 on Tuesday July 15th, even though the game is on Saturday at 9:30pm EST at Home Depot Center , so it will be another weekend of avoiding lacrosse websites for me! Denver comes in with the MLL’s best record at 6-2 and a win over the San Francisco Dragons. Los Angeles had a big win over Rochester and is trying to improve on its 4-3 record. This is the third game this season between the Riptide and Outlaws. Denver beat LA by 10 goals the first week of the season and by 3 goals a few weeks later. I think LA is going to sneak out a victory over the Outlaws to make the Western Conference playoff race interesting.

Chicago Machine at San Francisco Dragons-This Saturday night game in San Jose starts at 10pm EST and is on local cable TV. Both of these teams are at the bottom of the Western Conference and the MLL. Both San Francisco and Chicago are improving with rookies of the Syracuse national championship team and have lost close games the past few weeks. One of these teams is going to win. Not much at stake except a moral victory. Still might be fun to see since there is a lot of young talent. I am going with the Machine to win this one.
