Trudie Picks: Winners of the Division I Conference Tournaments

http://blogs.insidelacrosse.com/2008/05/02/playoff-push-whats-the-scenario/

There are lots of possibilities this weekend as the conference tournaments take place before the big selection show on Sunday. Here is who I think will win:

GWLL

Semi Finals- Notre Dame Vs. Quinnipiac- UND won the first game by 10. They will win this one too.

Denver vs. Ohio State- OSU beat Denver by seven in front of nearly 30k in Columbus. Without the home-field advantage I am going with Denver.

Pick for the Final- Notre Dame vs. Denver-Notre Dame will win no matter who they play in the final.

MAAC

Semi-Finals-Providence vs. VMI- Providence is the top seed, and VMI has a history of not being very good. Providence will win.

Canisius vs. Manhattan- Canisius will win this game, Manhattan is no match.

Pick for Final- Providence vs. Canisius- A rematch from last weekend. Providence has won the last three MAAC titles. But I think Canisius will pull it off. Either way, the winner is toast when they have to play Duke or Syracuse in the first round of the playoffs.

America East Championship

Albany vs. UMBC-The Retrievers are having a hell of a year. They beat Maryland, are ranked top 5 and have already beat Albany. UMBC will win and make another Cinderella run.

Colonial Championship

Hofstra vs. Drexel-Neither of these teams have been consistent this year. Even though Hofstra beat Hopkins, they also lost to a sub-par UMass and Princeton. Drexel beat Hofstra earlier in the year but their only other semi-impressive victory was over Albany. I think Hofstra will win a close game, but its really whoever shows up to win. Don’t expect the winner of this game to last long in the NCAA Tournament.
