The list of Division III teams dreaming of going to the NCAA Tournament got a lot shorter after today’s semifinal rounds in the conference tournaments. Here is a list of who is still left to play for their conference title and a chance to go to the big dance this weekend:
Pennsylvania Athletic-Cabrini vs. Eastern- Cabrini is a ranked team that has beaten other ranked teams. They should start packing their bags!
SUNYAC-Geneseo vs. Cortland- Cortland is the dominant team in this conference, but Jim Lyons and his boys could pull off an upset. They are both ranked and have beaten some good teams.
Landmark- Goucher vs. Drew- This will be the fifth all time meeting between Goucher and Drew. Drew has won the last three meetings. Including a 1999 game in San Diego and earlier this season. I am not sure what the implications of this game are due to the convoluted system of the DIII tournament and the fact that the Landmark Conference is new. I am pretty sure that the winner of the game won’t get an automatic bid.
MAC-Widener vs. Messiah- Both Pennsylvania schools with good programs, too close to call!
Skyline-Montclair vs. Kean- Don’t know much about either school, but I know that Montclair has a decent history of producing good lacrosse and survived getting the team cut a few years ago.
Pilgrim- Springfield vs. Wheaton- Springfield is usually the better team, so I expect them to win.
Old Dominion- Lynchburg vs. Virginia Wesleyan- Lynchburg is ranked VW is not. I am going with Lynchburg to win.
Still left- Commonwealth and Little East semi-final rounds.
